Rachel Hart – “Scots Palaeography”

‘Getting to grips with Scottish handwriting’. This interactive talk will give an introduction to the challenges of reading old handwriting and will be illustrated with examples of documents from the local area. It will provide practical tips and techniques on how to tackle difficult manuscripts and will try to de-mystify some of the technicalities of documents written in Scots. Advice will be given on where to find extra help and there will be chance to have a go for yourself.

Rachel is Senior Archivist at the University of St Andrews where she has taught Medieval and Early Modern Palaeography to Masters students for many years. She is the tutor on the Scots Palaeography module offered through the Centre for Archive and Information Studies at the University of Dundee.

Members FREE, non-members welcome (£2). Please email secretary@fifefhs.org for further details.
