Abercrombie to Lessles: From Sexton Books, Names, dates, locations of graves

Crail Deaths 1794-1854 is an indexing by Mr Andrew J Campbell, Editor of the Fife Family History SocietyJournal, of Vols 2 and 3 for the 4 lair register books of Crail Churchyard kept by the successive parish sextons from 1754-1923, and commonly known as ‘The Sexton Books of Crail’. Vols 2 and 3 are especially important as no deaths have been recorded by Crail Kirk Session in the OPR during this period and generally these books are the only record of death. They contain nearly 2500 entries. Each entry has been abridged, but all the names and relationships, as well as interment location int the Churchyard have been kept. It should be borne in mind that the dates in the sexton books are dates of burial, not death, but generally interment took place usually 2 or 3 days after death, except in cases of infectious disease, such as cholera or smallpox, when interment took place the same day.
